Attempt These Four Healthy Eating Ideas If You"re Under Stress

103 18
Eating healthy, and by that we mean eating a well-rounded diet that ticks off all of the nutritional boxes, is much easier when the conditions are perfect.
When you can choose what you want at the grocery store, prepare it the way you know will be healthy, and serve in portion sizes that will keep your calorie intake in balance, all you need is discipline.
It gets quite a bit harder when your circumstances can't be as controlled, such as when you're rushing through an airport or eating in restaurants.
Often stress can play a significant role in abandoning the diet, at least temporarily, and for many people who means eating whatever is available.
A few of the places where your diet may really be taxed are the following: 1.
In your car.
Until you get there, there's nowhere to go and nothing to do, and a drive through every 100 feet.
Bananas are always good, although you have to remember to eat them on a regular basis, but along with that bottled water you're always going to take with you, it is healthy and filling.
Another idea is a whole wheat English muffin with some organic peanut butter or nut butter.
That should keep you satisfied for at least a couple of hours.
2.
At the airport.
This is the place where you will be the most stressed, bored, or maybe both at the same time.
And you're further restricted by what you can actually carry.
I see so many people busy reading or listening to music or maybe a movie video or audio book.
It's really a good idea because it takes your mind off your stress or boredom.
If you absolutely have to have something to keep you going, there are always fruit choices rather than sugar or carb-laden foods.
3.
Restaurants.
It isn't easy, as our article on restaurant eating attests.
There are times when you really must be proactive and ask the staff to prepare your meal in a healthier manner.
Often it's a matter of choosing the right restaurant in the first place.
More restaurants are getting increasingly sensitive to healthier portion sizes and ways food is prepared.
In some cases such as New York City, legislation has thankfully put an end to Trans-fats in food.
4.
At home.
Especially in the morning, lack of time and stress can play a part in poor diet habits.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if you rely on stress to jump-start your morning you are definitely heading down the wrong path.
Low-fat yogurt and fruit takes just a minute to prepare, and if you don't even have a minute you can get it ready the night before.
Other options are hard or soft-boiled eggs shelled the night before and 100% whole grain toast with almond or peanut butter.
It's not ideal but you really can eat healthy when you're in a hurry.
The key is planning, and if you are always prepared you will never be caught in those situations where you have to compromise your diet.
